Getting Started

This page walks you through installing SecureCrypt, accepting the terms, creating your account, and saving your recovery key.

Download & install

SecureCrypt is currently available for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). macOS and Linux versions are in progress.

  1. Go to the Download page and download the Windows zip.
  2. Extract the zip to any folder on your computer.
  3. Run securecrypt-app.exe to launch the app.
Note No installer is required. You can run the app directly from the extracted folder.

First launch - legal acceptance

The first time you open SecureCrypt you will be asked to review and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Both must be checked before you can proceed. You will not see this screen again on the same device.

Creating your account

Account creation is a two-step process.

Step 1 - Email address

Enter the email address you want to use as your account identifier. The app checks the blockchain to confirm the email is not already registered, then moves to step 2.

Step 2 - Master password

Choose a strong master password and confirm it. This password encrypts your local vault. Keep the following in mind:

Click Create Account. The app will generate your encryption keys, create an encrypted local vault, back it up to the cloud, and register your identity on the blockchain. This takes a few seconds.

Important Do not close the app during account creation. If an error occurs, the app automatically cleans up and returns you to the login screen so you can try again.

Saving your recovery key

Immediately after your account is created, the app displays your 24-word recovery key. This is the only way to restore your account if you ever forget your master password.

  1. Write down all 24 words in order on paper (or copy them to a password manager).
  2. Click I've Saved My Recovery Key.
  3. The app will ask you to enter 3 random words from the phrase to confirm you have it. Enter them and click Verify & Continue.
Store your recovery key offline Do not save it only as a digital file on the same device. If your device is lost or damaged, you will need a copy that is stored somewhere else - a safe, a printed sheet, or a separate password manager.

Once verified, you will enter the main app.
