Login & Recovery

How to sign in on subsequent visits, what happens when the app auto-locks, and how to regain access if you forget your master password.

Signing in

When you open SecureCrypt on a device where you have previously logged in, the app remembers your email address and asks only for your master password.

  1. If your email is shown, enter your master password and click Unlock.
  2. If no email is shown, enter your email address first, then your password.

The app downloads your vault from the cloud, opens it with your password, and brings you to the main screen.

Changing accounts

If the wrong email is pre-filled, click Change next to the email to enter a different one.

Auto-lock

SecureCrypt automatically locks your vault after a period of inactivity (default: 5 minutes). When locked, the app returns to the login screen and your vault is closed. No one can access your files without your master password.

You can adjust the auto-lock timeout in Settings. You can also lock manually at any time by clicking Lock Now in Settings.

Forgot your password

If you forget your master password, you can recover your account using your 24-word recovery key.

  1. On the login screen, click Forgot Password?
  2. Paste or type your 24-word recovery phrase into the field (words separated by spaces).
  3. Click Recover. The app downloads and decrypts your recovery backup to verify the phrase.
  4. If successful, you will see a green confirmation. Enter a new master password, confirm it, and click Set New Password & Restore.

Your vault is re-encrypted with the new password, the change is synced to the cloud, and the recovery event is logged on the blockchain. Your original 24-word phrase remains valid for future recoveries.

If you have lost both your password and your recovery key Your data cannot be recovered. SecureCrypt uses zero-knowledge encryption - the company has no copy of your keys and cannot assist. This is why keeping your recovery key safe is critical.

No vault found

If you enter a valid email but no cloud vault exists for it, the app will offer to create a new account. This can happen if:
